Bassoon Reeds for Sale
I currently make reeds for several professional players and for many pupils. If you would like more information please email me via the contact page. It would be good to know what reeds and instrument/crook you are using and what problems you are trying to solve by changing reeds so that I can let you know if those that I make would be suitable.
These reeds are extremely free blowing and flexible without being "buzzy" and are profiled on a Reiger Profiler and then finished by hand or tipped on a Reiger Tipping machine. They are mainly bound using shrink wrap but I can supply the traditional "turks head" thread if you prefer. They are shorter than some commercial reeds (butt 26mm and blade 27mm or 26mm to shoulder) as I have played for some time on a pre war instrument that prefers shorter reeds. However, they also work on the modern Heckel I am now playing and I have good reports from both Fox and Puchner users. I can make them to your required length and can give you exact instructions on tuning the reeds to suit your instrument and crook based on the position of the first and second wires.
The cane I am using is mainly Danzi, Australian, Neuranter and Ghys and this gives a variety of results. The Australian is very responsive and bright when available. The Danzi is my personal favourite. The Ghys and Neuranter produce a mellower reed. I also make softer reeds for pupils using Glotin.
I can supply reeds unadjusted for those who are happy to do some final adjustments and scraping for £10 or I can discuss your exact needs and supply a reed ready for action for £15
I welcome email but if you would like to order direct just click on the "buy this item" under the reed image.
"I really enjoy using your reeds. They are so very different from those I am used, far more refined, and have a bright lively tone. I notice that I can better control dynamics and produce a purer tone in the upper registers... they are the best reeds I have
used." GW, Australia.
"I found them free blowing and they will play high and low notes with ease. The sound is good especially for orchestral work...visually the reeds look perfect; when you squeeze the gap shuts at the edges first and then in the middle. Very pleased. NC. UK
